Map of Wood County, Wis. compiled and published by J.A. Gaynor and C.T.
Purdy [between 1879-1880]. This is the oldest extent plat book of Wood County. Its publication date is uncertain, but its location for the Bakerville Post Office reflects a date between February 7, 1879 and March 15, 1880. The original is not owned by the Library and the only known copy is in private hands. The map is incomplete, with six of the original pages (and townships) missing. The missing townships are marked in yellow below. Several of the townships have changed names and/or boundaries, but the range and township numbers have remained constant. The map below uses the current township names. Click on the township name to see the plat map. This map is about the same age as those from Historical Atlas of Wisconsin, 1878, which include maps of Wood County and Centralia / Grand Rapids. While not plat maps, these show similar information. Phileo's Plat (1896) remains the oldest extant complete plat book. Digitized by McMillan Memorial Library from a copy provided by the South Wood County Historical Museum. ![]() |
