LES LIAISONS DANGEREUSE - National Theatre Live

Former lovers, the Marquise de Merteuil and Vicomte de Valmont now compete in games of seduction and revenge. Merteuil incites Valmont to corrupt the innocent Cecile de Volanges before her wedding night but Valmont has targeted the peerlessly virtuous and beautiful Madame de Tourvel. While these merciless aristocrats toy with others’ hearts and reputations, their own may prove more fragile than they supposed.

Following the hugely successful broadcasts of Coriolanus and King Lear, National Theatre Live brings the Donmar Warehouse’s highly anticipated new production of Les Liaisons Dangereuses to cinemas - recorded live at the Donmar’s London home. Directed by Josie Rourke (Coriolanus), the cast includes Elaine Cassidy (The Paradise), Janet McTeer (The Honourable Woman) and Dominic West (The Wire). In 1782, Choderlos de Laclos’ novel of sex, intrigue and betrayal in pre-revolutionary France scandalised the world. Two hundred years later, Christopher Hampton's irresistible adaptation swept the board, winning the Olivier and Evening Standard Awards for Best Play. Josie Rourke’s revival now marks the play’s thirty year anniversary.

This production is rated 15 – Suitable only for 15 years and over by the British Board of Film Classification. It has not been rated by the MPAA.

Run time (including a 15 minute intermission ) is 2 hours and 50 minutes.

As with all Library events, admission is free. Seating in the theater may be limited. Doors will open 45 minutes before show time. This program is sponsored by the McMillan Memorial Library Endowment Fund. Donations to the Endowment are always welcome.

About the series.

About National Theatre Live: This is a broadcast of a live National Theatre production. Each broadcast is filmed in front of a live audience in the theatre, where cameras are carefully positioned throughout the auditorium to ensure that later audiences get the ‘best seat in the house’ view of each production. Where these cameras are placed is different for each broadcast, to make sure that audiences enjoy the best possible experience every time. McMillan Library is one of many world-wide sites (but only three public libraries) that show these broadcasts on a delayed basis.
