Acceptable Use of
Electronic Resources Policy
In keeping with its mission, the Library
provides access to various electronic resources, including the
Internet. The McMillan Memorial Library has no control over the
content of these resources nor does the Library have complete
knowledge of what is contained within these resources.
All users of the electronic information
resources provided at or through McMillan Memorial Library agree
to the following guidelines:
Users will observe all Federal,
state and municipal laws and regulations.
Users will observe South Central
Library System, LINK and McMillan Memorial Library policies
and procedures.
Users will not attempt to: modify or
gain access to files, passwords or data belonging to others;
seek unauthorized access to any computer system; damage or
alter the hardware or software of any network or database,
including the LINK system; alter the setup or configuration
of the software or hardware.
Users will respect the privacy of
others using public access workstations.
Users will not send, receive or
display text or graphics which may reasonably be construed as
obscene.
Minors should have permission of their
parent(s) or guardian to use the Internet. The McMillan Memorial
Library assumes no responsibility for use of the Internet or
other electronic resources by minors. It is not possible for
library staff to control specific information minors may locate.
Just as libraries do not vouch for or endorse the viewpoints of
print materials in their collections, they do not do so for
electronic resources. The selection policy which governs the
librarys purchase of print and audiovisual materials may
not apply to resources accessed electronically. It is the
responsibility of the user (or their parent(s) or guardian) to
determine what is appropriate.
The library reserves the right to:
Terminate a users session
without notice.
Limit the amount of time at any one
sitting.
Suspend the computer and/or library
privileges of persons who violate this policy.
Library staff is available to assist
patrons in their use of electronic resources, but may not be
familiar with every application or resource. Use of terminals to
access electronic resources may be limited to give priority to
patrons accessing the LINK catalog.
