McMillan Memorial Library
Acceptable Use of Electronic Resources Policy

In keeping with its mission, the Library provides access to various electronic resources, including the Internet. The McMillan Memorial Library has no control over the content of these resources nor does the Library have complete knowledge of what is contained within these resources.

All users of the electronic information resources provided at or through McMillan Memorial Library agree to the following guidelines:

Users will observe all Federal, state and municipal laws and regulations.

Users will observe South Central Library System, LINK and McMillan Memorial Library policies and procedures.

Users will not attempt to: modify or gain access to files, passwords or data belonging to others; seek unauthorized access to any computer system; damage or alter the hardware or software of any network or database, including the LINK system; alter the setup or configuration of the software or hardware.

Users will respect the privacy of others using public access workstations.

Users will not send, receive or display text or graphics which may reasonably be construed as obscene.

Minors should have permission of their parent(s) or guardian to use the Internet. The McMillan Memorial Library assumes no responsibility for use of the Internet or other electronic resources by minors. It is not possible for library staff to control specific information minors may locate. Just as libraries do not vouch for or endorse the viewpoints of print materials in their collections, they do not do so for electronic resources. The selection policy which governs the library’s purchase of print and audiovisual materials may not apply to resources accessed electronically. It is the responsibility of the user (or their parent(s) or guardian) to determine what is appropriate.

The library reserves the right to:

Terminate a user’s session without notice.

Limit the amount of time at any one sitting.

Suspend the computer and/or library privileges of persons who violate this policy.

Library staff is available to assist patrons in their use of electronic resources, but may not be familiar with every application or resource. Use of terminals to access electronic resources may be limited to give priority to patrons accessing the LINK catalog.
