On Friday night, July 30, 2004, Advanced Janitorial was at work preparing the library for another day. At about 10:30 p.m., while they were working in the women's bathroom in the Adult Room, the pipe attaching the toilet to the wall suddenly broke, shooting water across the room. Due to the late weekend hour, it was difficult to find Library staff who knew how to shut off water to the building. By the time Head of Adult Services Don Litzer arrived and turned the water off, it had been pouring out for over 40 minutes.
