Monteverdi Chorale present Lessons and Carols December 7 - 7:00 p.m.
The Monteverdi Chorale was formed in the fall of 1986 and came together for its initial rehearsals in January of 1987. The Chorale performed their first public concert in Stevens Point in the spring of 1987. Ever since that first concert, the Chorale has provided exceptional chorale performances drawn from the entire chorale repertoire – from ancient traditions to modern compositions. The Chorale was named for Claudio Monteverdi (1567-1643), the innovative Italian composer whose works bridged the period from the Renaissance to the Baroque. Monteverdi’s choral compositions include an extenstive collection of madrigals, liturgical music, and some of the earliest known operas (two of which are still frequently performed: L’Orfeo and The Coronation of Poppea). Monteverdi Chorale is a professional-level auditioned ensemble of sixty singers in Central Wisconsin. Most members have extensive choral performance experience and professional vocal training. Monteverdi also welcomes occasional guest soloists. The Chorale presents a three-concert series each season: their annual Christmas concert in December, ‘Cabaret’ – a fund-raising dinner concert in February, and a spring concert in April. In addition to their scheduled concerts, the Chorale regularly participates in regional events by invitations and has toured internationally.
