Writing Contest Fine Print

Rules and Rights

 

  • McMillan Library reserves the rights to publish your story entry in printed and audio form.
  • We will have non-exclusive rights in perpetuity to: serial, online, archival, anthology, and audio.
  • You may simultaneously submit, but please promptly inform us if you would like to withdraw your piece from the contest.
  • You retain the rights to publish your story elswhere as you please.
  • Only one entry per person will be accepted.
  • Contest entries should not have been published previously or plagiarized.
  • Stories will appear on our website, podcast, and possible future printed collections.
  • Original, unpublished, work. You are the sole author. The piece does not contain copyrighted material that you do not have the rights to.
  • Suitable for a general audience.
  • Abide by the word count limit or poem entry limit.
  • Devoid of identifying names within the story, or on it’s pages. Please include your full name in the email, but do not include it on any of the pages of the story. We want judges to be able to read the stories anonymously.
  • Submitted to mcmillanpress [at] mcmillanlibrary.org with the appropriate subject heading.
  • McMillan Library reserves the right to cancel the contest if we don't get enough submissions to provide a quality and competitive judging environment.
